In gearing up to the November 2024 election, Denver Harbor Cares set an ambitious goal to convince at least 500 low-propensity registered voters to vote. We proudly announce that we surpassed our goal by turning out 170% of that objective with about 850 low-propensity voters casting their ballot this year.

INITIAL REVIEW OF NOVEMBER 2024 DENVER HARBOR ELECTIONS RESULTS


Houston, TX – In gearing up to the November 2024 election, Denver Harbor Cares set an ambitious goal to convince at least 500 low-propensity registered voters to vote. We proudly announce that we surpassed our goal by turning out 170% of that objective with about 850 low-propensity voters casting their ballot this year.


Throughout the recent decades, one of the most difficult and pressing problems in Denver Harbor has been low voter engagement. Adding to this problem is the lack of attention given to low propensity voters, or the group of over 3,000 Denver Harbor residents who have rarely or never participated in any midterm or general election since 2016.

Political campaigns usually write off these registered voters; fail to mail out to them, fail to text message them and fail to phone bank them. However, Denver Harbor Cares believes that the key to a stronger, more civically healthy neighborhood is a more involved citizenry.


Denver Harbor Cares held and participated in numerous community events, including a Candidate Meet & Greet event attended by over 100 Denver Harbor residents and a bipartisan group of office seekers. We also conducted several well-attended voter education community loterias. Our active participation in National Night Out, the Trunk-or-Treat event, and Love Thy Neighborhood festival, was all geared to increase voter awareness of the election and provide resources for voters to make an informed choice.

Over several weeks, Denver Harbor Cares made almost 12,000 calls, sent out over 2,000 text messages, mailed 5,000 postcards, distributed over 400 voter guides around the neighborhood, and dropped voting literature in about 2,500 homes.


Although many regular high propensity voters did not turn out, it was relative to the local and national environment where turnout was drastically lower this year than in the presidential elections of 2016 and 2020. Denver Harbor Cares’ work ahead is to continue engaging low-propensity voters and convert our new voters into regular voters.
